Role overview

Join the Programming Foundations Team within Amazon Builder Experience, supporting shared software, programming languages, and application build tools.

The team maintains foundational tools and infrastructure used by software builders across Amazon; its work affects teams company-wide.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build developer tools used by Amazon engineers.
  • Maintain and evolve build tools, compilers, libraries, and frameworks.
  • Contribute to upstream open-source projects and collaborate with engineers to address their development pain points.
  • Write and review code, and help others debug tools.

Basic qualifications

  • At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • At least 2 years designing or architecting new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • At least 1 year of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
  • At least 1 year designing and developing large-scale applications, tools, systems, or services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
  • At least 1 year of object-oriented design experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; programming experience in at least one language.

Preferred qualifications

  • Three or more years of full software development life-cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Compensation

  • The description lists annual base salary ranges of USD 143,700–194,400 for Boston, Arlington, and Seattle.
  • Compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units; final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and location.
