Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Role overview

Key responsibilities

• Learn the codebase and technology stack quickly.
• Lead product-feature planning and prepare detailed release and rollback strategies.
• Research and apply industry trends.
• Create unit tests and write and maintain code to established standards.
• Contribute to post-release maintenance and solve complex problems.
• Improve reliability and efficiency across the codebase, platforms, and core systems.
• Influence technical vision and scope within the product stream.
• Mentor peers through pair programming and guide tasks.
• Review major pull requests, set programming standards, and give constructive feedback.
• Design and deliver REST APIs and architect solutions across the software development lifecycle.
• Coordinate with backend, QA, design, technical lead, and other technology teams.
• Push back on incomplete requirements and share innovations across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering is preferred.
• 6+ years of professional backend software engineering experience in Python (Django).
• Cloud-hosted infrastructure experience; AWS is preferred.
• Kubernetes and Docker experience is advantageous.
• High-traffic, large-scale web product experience is preferred.
• Experience with web infrastructure, SOA, distributed systems, performance analysis, and search infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, queuing, logging, security, and persistence.
• Mastery of caching strategies, including memcached.
• Understanding of build process management and continuous integration.
• Mastery of unit, component, integration, and other testing methodologies.
• Ability to handle the full software development lifecycle.
• Strong communication, adaptability, prioritization, analytical and conceptual thinking, and attention to detail.

Technical scope

• Backend development in Python and Django, REST APIs, and service-oriented architecture.
• Cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, web and search infrastructure, and performance analysis.
• Asynchronous programming, queuing, logging, security, persistence, caching, and memcached.
• Build management, continuous integration, and unit, component, and integration testing.
