Role Overview

An experienced UAE-based veterinarian is required to provide specialist input to a veterinary vaccine feasibility study supporting a UAE government authority.

The consultant will advise on animal health, livestock production, disease control, vaccination practices, and veterinary services in the UAE and wider GCC.

The engagement is flexible and call-off through December 2026, depending on project requirements.

Engagement Terms

  • This is an independent advisory consultancy engagement and not an employment position.
  • The consultant will work on a flexible, call-off basis and may support technical reviews, project discussions, stakeholder meetings, and field visits.
  • The engagement pays an hourly consulting rate based on qualifications, professional experience, and relevant expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and validate livestock, disease, vaccination, and animal-health service data for the UAE and GCC.
  • Assess local assumptions and challenge vaccine demand, uptake, priority disease, and vaccination requirements.
  • Provide veterinary expertise on disease prevention, control, surveillance, vaccination programmes, regulations, and supply chains.
  • Attend meetings and field visits, interpret observations, and explain technical matters to consultants and non-specialists.
  • Respond to project queries and support the multidisciplinary consulting team at short notice.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Veterinary degree such as DVM, BVSc, BVMS, or equivalent, with at least 10 years of professional veterinary experience.
  • Strong ruminant expertise covering camels, sheep, goats, and cattle, plus direct UAE livestock production and disease-control experience.
  • Working knowledge of GCC animal-health and livestock markets, poultry health, vaccination, disease control, and veterinary regulations.
  • Fluency in English, strong communication skills, and ability to work with consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Immediate availability and ability to participate in flexible meetings, field visits, and travel within the UAE and wider GCC.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with veterinary vaccine manufacturers, animal-health companies, research institutes, disease-control programmes, or international organisations is advantageous.
  • Experience in veterinary public health, government veterinary authorities, public-sector animal-health programmes, vaccine markets, or regional supply chains is advantageous.
  • Exposure to companion animal and equine health is desirable.
  • Arabic language skills are highly advantageous for farm visits and stakeholder engagement.

Location and Availability

  • The consultant must currently be based in the UAE and be available for potential travel within the UAE and wider GCC.
  • The consultant must be able to respond to project requirements on a flexible, short-notice basis.
