The Staff Backend Software Engineer is a technical authority responsible for backend architecture, performance, and scaling.
The role partners with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams to build resilient services and mentor engineers.
The position is based onsite at LVT’s American Fork headquarters.
Role responsibilities
- Drive backend architecture, technical direction, and design standards across production services.
- Build scalable Node.js and TypeScript backend systems and APIs.
- Improve reliability, maintainability, performance, CI/CD workflows, and developer productivity.
- Partner with Product Management, QA, and DevOps on specifications, estimates, and delivery.
- Resolve complex technical issues, mentor engineers, and evaluate emerging technologies.
Ideal candidate
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of software engineering focused on complex backend systems, cloud services, and APIs.
- 3+ years of production Node.js and TypeScript service development.
- OpenAPI/REST API design expertise and experience building or optimizing GraphQL queries and mutations.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as NestJS and containerized deployment using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
- Relational database proficiency; SQL experience is preferred.
- Experience guiding technical teams and improving processes in Agile environments.
- Strong reliability, testing, root-cause problem-solving, communication, and adaptability.
