Role overview

Senior Data Analyst (Report Developer) in the Data Services Team at Social Security Scotland.

Develops and supports high-quality Power BI reporting products to inform operational and strategic decisions.

The role supports a move towards managed self-service reporting and promotes robust, accessible, fit-for-purpose reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Power BI dashboard and report development, from understanding requirements through publication and support in Power BI Service.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into user-focused visualisations and reporting products.
  • Set and promote reporting standards, governance, and data best practice; guide users with documentation and support.
  • Conduct complex analysis and synthesis and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Run meetings and workshops; assure and peer-review analysis produced by colleagues.
  • Investigate reporting issues, validate outputs, and manage others in implementing data-driven solutions.
  • Define data governance mechanisms, conduct data mapping and pipelining, and contribute to corporate data patterns and standards.
  • Apply data quality methods, support metadata standards and semantic interoperability, and manage data analysis projects.

Role requirements

  • Strong Power BI development expertise, including Power BI Service.
  • Strong data analysis and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work with complex data and translate business needs into meaningful visualisations.
  • Ability to guide others in sound data preparation, management, reporting, and use.

Role level

  • Senior Data Analysts lead data analysis within a team or area and guide practices for managing and using data.

Location

  • The description lists Dundee and Glasgow as locations; it does not specify an onsite or remote working arrangement.
