The Senior Cost Control Engineer is responsible for cost control across the project lifecycle, from inception to completion.
The role establishes and manages cost control systems to support project management decisions and keep projects within approved budgets.
The position is described as a mid-management leadership role requiring a proactive, collaborative approach and relationship management at all levels.
Key accountabilities
- Create cost awareness within the Project Management Team.
- Prepare project budgets using actual costs, estimation data, and contractual documents and standards.
- Review tender estimates and escalate irregularities.
- Prepare monthly cost reports comparing actual performance with budget.
- Liaise with internal teams to obtain project cost-center actuals and align reports with stakeholders and project teams.
- Monitor daily costs, metrics, and efficiencies, including subcontractors and purchased materials, against budget.
- Coordinate risk management activities and qualitative and quantitative assessment of risks and opportunities.
- Contribute project updates to monthly management reports.
- Analyze actuals versus budget, advise on performance, update the central costing database, and escalate deviations or overruns.
- Review and amend project budgets when scope changes.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or another related engineering field.
- At least five years of experience in project management, project control, planning, estimation, budgeting, and cost control.
- Experience with the Earned Value Method in cost reporting.
- Excellent knowledge of planning and cost control techniques, methods, systems, standards, and software.
- Certified Cost Professional certification is an added advantage.
- Industry certifications in project management and project controls are referenced; computer literacy is required.
