Role overview

Own the evolution of a payroll solution for K–12 school districts, from understanding customer needs through defining capabilities and guiding delivery.

The role connects Product, Customer Success, and Engineering and focuses on what the product should build and why.

Product strategy and discovery

  • Understand customer payroll processes, including pay cycles, supplemental pay, deductions, benefits, leave accruals, and year-end processing.
  • Analyze customer pain points, identify feature gaps, monitor regulatory changes, and translate them into product opportunities and requirements.
  • Balance customer requests with product strategy and help prioritize roadmap initiatives.

Product definition and delivery

  • Create and manage Jira stories and epics, functional requirements, and acceptance criteria covering calculations, business rules, and edge cases.
  • Define workflows and business rules across payroll and related HR and finance modules; collaborate with UX and Engineering on designs.
  • Own features from concept through release, validate functionality and compliance, and communicate readiness and timelines to Customer Success.

Customer and cross-functional collaboration

  • Partner with Customer Success on implementations and payroll conversions, advise on capabilities and best practices, and support complex client implementations.
  • Work with Engineering through development, participate in sprint planning and feature reviews, and perform functional testing with Engineering and QA.
  • Monitor feedback, support trends, and adoption; recommend improvements to usability, automation, scalability, and support effort.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of Product Management or Product Owner experience in enterprise software; SaaS is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on payroll experience as a practitioner or on payroll software.
  • Strong U.S. payroll knowledge, including federal and state withholding, garnishments, deductions, benefits, and W-2 and 941 year-end processing.
  • Experience gathering requirements, writing user stories and acceptance criteria, working with Engineering through the software development lifecycle, and understanding Agile methods.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, detail, and written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation

  • Salary range is USD 75,000–85,000 per year.
