The Commis I – Pastry assists with preparing and producing pastries, cakes, desserts, and other sweet creations.
The role involves learning and applying pastry techniques, supporting senior pastry chefs, and maintaining a clean, hygienic, and organized pastry kitchen.
Pastry production and quality
- Assist with daily preparation and production of pastries, cakes, desserts, cookies, and other pastry items.
- Prepare ingredients and follow recipes, portion sizes, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure pastry products meet quality, freshness, taste, and presentation standards.
- Assist senior chefs with menu preparation, buffet setup, and special events.
Kitchen operations and safety
- Keep the pastry section, equipment, and workstations clean and organized.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
- Store, label, and rotate ingredients according to FIFO procedures.
- Monitor stock levels and inform the supervisor about shortages or wastage.
- Minimize food waste and use ingredients efficiently.
- Follow the Pastry Chef’s instructions and complete assigned duties on time.
- Handle equipment safely and keep it in good working condition.
- Comply with company policies, health and safety regulations, and departmental procedures.
