Role overview

Build and run automated testing for public-sector digital services in multidisciplinary agile teams.

Use code to test microservices, user interfaces and APIs, embedding quality through continuous testing.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain automated UI and API tests using Selenium, Cypress or Playwright and REST Assured.
  • Test microservices, service interactions and contracts; write readable BDD tests using Cucumber.
  • Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines and conduct performance, security and accessibility testing.
  • Maintain test code, review engineers’ tests, analyse results and track evidence-based defects through resolution.
  • Collaborate on acceptance criteria and test coverage; report quality, coverage and release risks.
  • Share test automation practices and support colleagues.

Essential requirements

  • Strong hands-on test automation and programming experience, for example Java, JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Experience with microservices and UI/API automation, BDD and Cucumber, and at least one of Selenium, Cypress or Playwright.
  • Experience with REST Assured, CI/CD pipelines, continuous testing, and performance, security and accessibility testing.
  • Experience in agile multidisciplinary teams and strong communication skills.

Desirable experience

  • Performance tools such as JMeter, k6 or Gatling; WCAG 2.2 accessibility testing; and security tools such as OWASP ZAP.
  • GDS Service Standard delivery, AWS or Azure experience, and mentoring other testers.

Compensation

  • Salary is £55,000–£63,000 per annum.
