Role overview
The role focuses on QA automation for government digital services and quality across UI, API and microservices-based applications.
The work supports reliable, accessible, user-centred services and alignment with GOV.UK Service Standard and DDaT requirements.
Automation and test delivery
- Design, build and maintain UI and API automation frameworks and automated test scripts.
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines.
- Plan and execute automation-focused functional, regression and integration testing; support UAT and end-to-end journey validation.
- Track defects, report test results, monitor recurring failures and improve automation coverage and reliability.
Collaboration and quality standards
- Work with developers, product managers, business analysts and QA engineers in Agile ceremonies.
- Refine test strategies, support continuous quality improvement and provide technical guidance or mentoring where required.
- Support validation of security, accessibility and performance requirements through automated and manual testing where appropriate.
Technical skills and experience
- At least 6 years as a QA Automation Tester or in a similar role.
- Strong Java and JavaScript skills; hands-on UI automation experience with Playwright, Selenium and Cypress.
- Experience with REST Assured and Postman, building automation frameworks from scratch, and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of microservices, contract testing, Git, SQL and relational database testing.
- Familiarity with React, HTML and CSS; analytical troubleshooting skills and effective Agile collaboration.
