Sr. HSE Engineer

Role overview

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the project HSE Plan, risk controls, and safe-work systems.
• Inspect sites, identify unsafe conditions, and ensure corrective actions are closed out.
• Review risk assessments, method statements, permits to work, and lifting plans.
• Control high-risk work, including work at height, excavation, lifting, hot work, scaffolding, temporary electrical work, plant movement, and confined-space work.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, HSE awareness sessions, and emergency drills.
• Investigate incidents and near misses and prepare reports, root-cause analyses, and preventive actions.
• Maintain HSE records, training matrices, statistics, and client or consultant submissions.
• Verify competency documents and equipment records before mobilisation and throughout the project.
• Monitor PPE, housekeeping, waste, welfare, and environmental compliance.
• Coordinate with project stakeholders, attend HSE meetings and audits, and exercise stop-work authority for immediate risks.

Required qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 8 years of total HSE experience, including substantial UAE construction-project experience.
• Strong experience on building, civil infrastructure, utilities, or public-realm projects in Abu Dhabi or the UAE.
• Completed Abu Dhabi OSH practitioner training and valid registration, or eligibility to obtain or renew it through the applicable ADPHC/TAMM process.
• Knowledge of Abu Dhabi OSH requirements, UAE construction safety legislation, permit-to-work systems, and HSE management systems.
• Experience preparing HSE plans, reviewing RAMS, investigating incidents, and preparing audit reports and client or consultant submissions.
• Strong English communication, reporting, and leadership skills.

Preferred profile

• NEBOSH or equivalent Level HSE qualification is strongly preferred.
• ISO 45001 experience is preferred; candidates may also be ready to pursue it after joining.
• Arabic is an advantage.
• Experience on Aldar, Abu Dhabi government, consultant-supervised, or similarly high-standard UAE projects is preferred.
• Subcontractor HSE coordination, large multi-trade workforce documentation, or managing HSE Officers and Inspectors is preferred.

Pay

• Pay starts at AED 8,000 per month.

• Work is in person in Abu Dhabi.
