Role overview

Build the future of data streaming with the Amazon Managed Streaming for Kafka (MSK) team.

MSK is a managed service that helps customers build and run applications using Apache Kafka to process streaming data.

The role spans AWS service software and open-source Kafka platform work; platform changes are released to open source.

Responsibilities

  • Build features across MSK APIs and workflows, the core Kafka platform, and standalone tools for Kafka operators.
  • Design features, improve performance, investigate technologies, prototype solutions, and build scalable services.
  • Test and review changes to deliver a strong customer experience.
  • Collaborate with engineers on a large-scale AWS service and work with senior leaders on the team roadmap.
  • Identify design and code changes needed in underlying open-source platforms.

Basic qualifications

  • At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • At least 2 years of non-internship experience designing or architecting systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • Experience programming in at least one software programming language.

Preferred qualifications

  • At least 3 years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Ideal candidates have experience designing large-scale systems supporting millions of transactions per second.
  • Streaming technology experience such as Amazon Kinesis or Apache Kafka, and open-source data-processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Apache Flink, or Apache Storm, are described as ideal.

Compensation

  • The listed base salary range is USD 143,700–194,400 annually for Santa Monica, California.
  • Compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units; final compensation depends on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
