Role overview

Build and lead a new AWS Service Care Center organization in Vancouver focused on improving software development, deployment, and maintenance for AWS engineers.

The team operates maintenance-mode services and develops automation to detect over-provisioning and track reductions across its service portfolio.

The role aims to reduce infrastructure spending, reclaim engineering capacity, and advance services toward near-zero builder attention.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and lead an organization dedicated to improving AWS developer experience.
  • Identify and prioritize problems that impede AWS software development.
  • Create a roadmap delivering meaningful weekly improvements alongside long-term transformation.
  • Establish team culture and standards for the software builder experience.
  • Partner with Amazon Software Builder Experience while focusing on AWS-specific challenges.
  • Set and defend scope and priority decisions, including when facing pressure from senior stakeholders.
  • Lead engineers operating services and developing reusable portfolio-scale automation.
  • Drive infrastructure savings, capacity recovery, and removal of excess instances and hosts.

Basic qualifications

  • At least 3 years of engineering team management experience.
  • At least 7 years working directly within engineering teams.
  • At least 3 years designing or architecting systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • At least 8 years leading definition and development of multi-tier web services.
  • Knowledge of software, hardware, and network development lifecycle practices, including coding standards, reviews, source control, builds, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leaders about requirements, product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing software engineers to improve their skills and effectiveness.

Technical focus

  • Deep expertise in AWS technology architecture and business use.
  • The role calls for technical hands-on leadership and interest in generative AI, AI-powered tooling, and agentic workflows.
  • The description emphasizes developer experience, system architecture, reliability, scaling, and multi-tier web services.

Compensation

  • Base salary range is CAD 171,400 to CAD 286,200 annually for Vancouver, British Columbia.
  • Total compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units; final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and location.
  • Benefits include health coverage, retirement plans, and paid time off.
