Team and opportunity

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own scalable distributed systems and microservices within the assigned domain.
• Lead complex features and technical initiatives end-to-end within the service or team.
• Drive system design, API design, and engineering best practices.
• Own scalability, performance, reliability, and fault tolerance; optimize high-throughput, low-latency systems.
• Identify risks and improvements, make technical trade-off decisions, and drive issues to resolution.
• Collaborate with adjacent teams and partner with product and business stakeholders on priorities and constraints.
• Stay hands-on with coding and system design, and mentor engineers.
• Handle production issues, drive root-cause analysis, and lead follow-through improvements.

Technical requirements

• 8–12 years of backend engineering experience and strong experience building and owning distributed systems at scale.
• Expertise in Java, Kotlin, Scala, or Go.
• Strong understanding of microservices, REST APIs, system design, SQL/NoSQL databases, performance, scalability, and concurrency.
• Strong coding and problem-solving ability.

Ownership and communication

• Track record of taking ownership and driving initiatives within an area of responsibility.
• Ability to make decisions under ambiguity and own technical and business consequences.
• Experience communicating trade-offs to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated impact mentoring or growing engineers with concrete outcomes.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale consumer or marketplace platforms.
• Exposure to event-driven systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, or Aerospike.
• Familiarity with AWS or GCP, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum environments.
