Senior HPC Engineer

The opportunity

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy, operate, and maintain HPC infrastructure and clusters, including compute and storage nodes, interconnects, and management platforms.
• Configure and troubleshoot InfiniBand, high-speed Ethernet, Mellanox switches, OpenSM, and routing; manage HPC scheduling and workload platforms.
• Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server; support HPC storage, backup, provisioning, virtualization, and enterprise server platforms.
• Support GPU infrastructure, tune CPU/GPU workloads, and monitor system, network, storage, and infrastructure health.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis; develop operational automation with Shell and Python.
• Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operating procedures; apply security best practices and collaborate with customers, vendors, and teams.
• Support specialized HPC workloads, including reservoir engineering and petroleum applications where applicable.
• Contribute to improvements in performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• At least 5 years in HPC operations, systems, infrastructure, network engineering, or a related technical role; HPC-environment experience preferred.
• Strong Red Hat Enterprise Linux, data center, HPC cluster, compute, storage, networking, and interconnect experience.
• Strong InfiniBand and Ethernet skills, including Mellanox switches, subnet managers such as OpenSM, routing, protocols, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with HPC scheduling; LSF is strongly preferred, with Slurm and/or PBS highly desirable.
• Familiarity with GPFS, Spectrum Protect, DDN GridScaler, NetApp SAN/NAS, xCAT, PXE, and Kickstart.
• GPU infrastructure and CPU/GPU workload tuning; NVIDIA H100 or newer experience is desirable.
• Windows Server, virtualization, enterprise server hardware, monitoring, scripting, LAN/WAN, security, troubleshooting, and technical documentation experience.
• Strong communication and stakeholder skills. Reservoir engineering or petroleum software familiarity is an advantage.

• Scheduling platforms include LSF, Slurm, and PBS.
• Storage platforms include IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS), DDN GridScaler, NetApp SAN/NAS, and IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM).
• Provisioning tools include xCAT, PXE, and Kickstart; monitoring examples include Zabbix and Grafana.
• Virtualization examples include VMware ESXi/vSAN, Citrix, VxRail, and KVM; hardware examples include HPE ProLiant and Dell PowerEdge.
• Specialized software examples include tNavigator, Nexus-VIP, Eclipse, Intersect, IMPOWER, and PUMA.
