Role overview

Working arrangement

• Hybrid working blends company offices, client sites, and home; the role cannot be performed from home 100% of the time.

Delivery and technical leadership

• Lead teams designing, building, and optimizing scalable data solutions across modern and existing services.
• Set technical direction through technical leads and clarify priorities, dependencies, delivery outcomes, and standards.
• Align teams, frame delivery goals, produce practical engineering plans, and help engineers deliver consistently through change.
• Support continuous improvement and use emerging technologies, including AI, to improve productivity, delivery speed, and solution quality.
• Make pragmatic engineering decisions, model effective engineering behaviors, and maintain quality and delivery commitments.

Engineering practice and team development

• Guide technical leads and engineers, promote engineering best practices and coding standards, and contribute to design decisions.
• Coach engineers, give constructive feedback, support knowledge sharing, and develop team capability.
• Promote collaboration and shared understanding through clear communication and constructive challenge.
• Help teams identify and remove delivery bottlenecks and improve productivity and delivery performance.

Data engineering and quality

• Design and govern robust, scalable data engineering solutions and support migration and modernization of legacy data platforms.
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, testers, and business stakeholders to deliver business outcomes.
• Apply test principles, test automation, and quality engineering practices; build quality into solutions and support reliable delivery.

Skills and experience

• Experienced Senior Data Engineer able to lead multiple teams delivering complex client programmes.
• Experience designing and governing scalable data solutions and supporting legacy platform migration and modernization.
• Technical leadership, engineering best practices, coding standards, technical design, and decision-making capability.
• Ability to set delivery goals, align teams, adapt to changing priorities, and communicate decisions clearly.
• Experience coaching and supporting engineers’ development, knowledge sharing, and capability building.
• Strong understanding of testing, test automation, and quality engineering; ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
