Role overview

Core functions

• Contribute to project inception reviews, planning documents, drawing strategy, standards, numbering, and efficient production methods.
• Comply with BIM Execution Plans and agree deliverables, resources, deadlines, and priorities with the team.
• Agree setting-out coordinates, grid lines, floor levels, and building details with other team members.
• Develop coordinated building models, general arrangements, sections, details, and drawings from sketches and design-team documents.
• Produce accurate models and drawings to WSP CAD standards, using available templates and library items; eliminate errors and clashes.
• Coordinate architectural and MEP models and work with project team members on specified project aspects.
• Self-check models and drawings, review structural drawing accuracy, and plan reviews before issue.
• Follow QA, document-control, archiving, and CDM guidelines.
• Advise and coach colleagues on intermediate CAD functions; provide guidance to others as required.
• Show initiative, pursue personal improvement, and apply lessons learned to future projects.
• Liaise with project team members in India and the UK.
• Contribute to CAD estimates, monitor work and fee tracking, and save project correspondence.

Mandatory skills and knowledge

• Expert knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD, including standard functions and coaching junior staff.
• Use AutoCAD, BIM360, Navisworks, Microsoft Office 365, and MS Teams.
• Prepare structural details for concrete structures and steel members, including columns, beams, braces, trusses, stairs, handrails, joists, and metal decking.
• Understand structural mechanics, building construction, consulting engineering, RIBA work stages, LOD, and drawing requirements.
• Know project templates, custom worksets, Revit Phasing, Uniclass 2015, and software file types and extensions.
• Familiarity with PAS1192 and BS1192; experience in a CDE for rejecting and approving documents.
• Experience supporting medium-sized projects and working across different sectors.

Desired skills

• Desired competencies include initiative, oral and written English communication, organization, innovation, teamwork, self-development, client relationships, quality improvement, and accountability.
• Desired technical skills include Revit family creation, parametric modeling, embodied carbon, 3D reinforced concrete detailing, and underground drainage modeling.
• Civil 3D, SketchUp, Rhino, Fusion, Forge, Inventor, and Bluebeam are listed as useful software.

Qualifications and experience

• Diploma in Civil Engineering or higher.
• At least 8 years of production experience in detailing, structural drawing, drafting, team management, and engineering, with significant similar-role experience or a demonstrated track record.
