Role Overview
One-year contract for a Principal Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer based in Ottawa, Ontario.
Own end-to-end embedded architecture and solutions for advanced optical devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Own embedded architecture from requirements and trade studies through hardware selection, software layering, interfaces, and release readiness.
- Implement solutions across MCUs, RTOS or bare-metal stacks, drivers, middleware, power management, boot/OTA, and security.
- Work with hardware, architecture, and manufacturing teams to validate designs on real hardware.
- Analyze schematics, data sheets, scope traces, and logic-analyzer results.
- Establish coding guidelines, HAL/BSP structures, reusable platform layers, documentation, and design reviews.
- Lead decisions on cost, performance, power, and time-to-market trade-offs.
- Drive debugging, diagnostics, failure analysis, reliability, and applicable industry standards.
- Mentor development and test engineers and unblock critical issues.
Skills and Experience
- Hold a BS/MS in computer science, electronics, electrical engineering, or a related field with embedded software development experience.
- Have at least 15 years of embedded systems design and development experience.
- Demonstrate deep RTOS, multithreaded software, operating-system, and bare-metal development knowledge.
- Have strong system architecture ownership and architectural leadership experience.
- Have experience with secure boot, cryptography, threat modeling, boot/OTA, and embedded security.
- Demonstrate object-oriented design and design-pattern expertise.
- Bring strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Collaborate effectively across global sites and time zones.
- OTN standards and optical-device knowledge and experience are preferred.
