About Artelia

Artelia is an international engineering, consulting, and project management group working across infrastructure, buildings, mobility, water, and energy.

The Middle East team is described as multicultural and growing.

Role overview

Design and support delivery of flexible and rigid airfield pavements, heavy-duty apron and stand pavements, landside roads, and pavement-management solutions.

The role includes structural and geometric design, geotechnical interpretation, condition assessment, lifecycle planning, construction support, and multidisciplinary coordination.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and evaluate flexible, rigid, and composite airfield pavements using standard design tools.
  • Develop traffic forecasts, ACR/PCR classifications, and overload analyses.
  • Plan and interpret geotechnical investigations, including CBR, FWD/HWD, and PCI; define material performance requirements.
  • Develop airfield pavement management systems and maintenance, overlay, and reconstruction strategies.
  • Design airport access roads, circulation layouts, and parking interfaces in Civil 3D, integrating drainage, utilities, and lighting.
  • Review contractor mix designs, method statements, and trial sections.
  • Lead site inspections and investigate defects for quality control.
  • Use approved AI-assisted automation and analytics for option studies, calculations, and reporting, retaining professional accountability.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution.
  • A master’s degree in pavement, highway, or geotechnical engineering is advantageous.
  • At least eight years of relevant civil-engineering design experience, including airfield-pavement design or evaluation.
  • Hands-on capability with FAARFIELD, COMFAA, BAKFAA, ELMOD, MicroPAVER, PAVEAIR, or equivalent pavement tools.
  • Knowledge of pavement mechanics, geotechnical engineering, materials, aircraft loading, ACR/PCR classification, and construction quality.
  • Road geometric design experience using Civil 3D, OpenRoads, or equivalent; swept-path tools such as AutoTURN or AviPLAN are advantageous.
  • Advanced AutoCAD and Civil 3D capability; working knowledge of BIM coordination, GIS, and Common Data Environment workflows.
  • Competence in AI-assisted engineering, output validation, data protection awareness, and assumption documentation.
