Optomechanical Engineer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Create 3D CAD models and optomechanical concepts for innovative systems.
• Design, develop, analyze, document, and support testing of precision components and assemblies.
• Conduct tolerance, thermal, structural, and optical analysis using appropriate engineering tools.
• Evaluate the effects of loads and environmental factors on components and systems, especially lens assemblies.
• Participate in design reviews, improve existing and next-generation products, and support production teams.
• Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis using engineering and physics principles.
• Develop processes that ensure design intent and manufacturability.
• Generate supporting data packs and artifacts for optical components and systems.
• Provide technical oversight and delegate tasks as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of optomechanical systems design and development experience.
• Strong proficiency with CAD tools and simulation platforms; proven mechanical and thermal analysis ability.
• Familiarity with integrating optical components into mechanical assemblies.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to lead design initiatives from concept through production.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.

Technical skills

• Experience with optomechanical systems, CAD modeling, and simulation; examples include SolidWorks and ANSYS.
• Skills in structural, mechanical, thermal, and vibration system design and testing; mechanical design and electronics packaging.
• Knowledge of material properties, fabrication techniques, and design for manufacturability.
• Familiarity with electro-optics lab equipment such as autocollimators and shakers.
• Zemax optical modeling is advantageous.

Language

• English proficiency is required for roles unless otherwise stated in the posting.
