Role overview

The Ocean Freight Import Specialist supports shipment execution and serves as a key customer contact.

The role helps meet service commitments, manage customer expectations, execute operational processes efficiently, and support profitability, compliance, and issue resolution.

Shipment and customer operations

  • Administer bookings, shipment documentation, and related local and international transport activities.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for shipment information, exceptions, complaints, and claims.
  • Support shipment routing and assignment to meet service commitments and maximize profit.
  • Prepare accurate invoices and supporting documents, resolve invoice disputes, and own file profitability.
  • Execute regulatory compliance procedures relating to shipment commodities and locations.
  • Maintain client relationships, identify upsell opportunities, and support customer retention.

Additional ocean freight duties

  • Resolve day-to-day delivery issues and improve ocean freight effectiveness using the transportation management system.
  • Monitor supplier performance and propose corrective actions.
  • Participate in PDs and GEMBA activities and share improvement ideas.
  • Assist with transport order creation or confirmation, booking optimization, and document preparation.
  • Update customs shipment information and physical status, and resolve customer issues and incidents.

Requirements

  • Vocational, specialized, technical, or certification-level preparation.
  • Less than two years of experience.

Team collaboration

Support and interact primarily with colleagues on the team.

Communicate information requiring little explanation or interpretation and address task-related issues appropriately.
