The Ken Fix-It Technician performs preventive and corrective guestroom maintenance to keep facilities, equipment, and fixtures in operating condition and meet hotel quality, safety, and brand standards.
The role covers civil, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general maintenance and aims to minimize disruption to hotel operations and guest satisfaction.
The role reports to the Engineering Manager.
Maintenance and repairs
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance of guestrooms.
- Perform civil, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and minor furniture maintenance and repairs.
- Repair grout, replace silicone, touch up paint and furniture, and adjust door hardware.
- Repair plumbing fixtures; troubleshoot electrical systems and GRMS devices.
- Maintain curtain systems and service fan coil units, including filter and actuator replacement and chilled-water condensate flushing.
- Inspect guestrooms during preventive maintenance and identify defects requiring corrective action.
Work records, safety, and teamwork
- Complete maintenance records and work orders accurately; prepare tools, materials, and spare parts before work and maintain good housekeeping afterward.
- Report recurring defects, equipment failures, and major repairs requiring specialist intervention.
- Follow hotel health, safety, environmental, and engineering procedures and maintain a professional appearance in guest areas.
- Support engineering colleagues and perform additional duties assigned by the Engineering Manager.
Education and experience
- Diploma or Trade Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Air Conditioning, Building Maintenance, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 3 years of hotel engineering or facilities maintenance experience; luxury hotel experience is preferred.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
Skills and competencies
- Strong knowledge of guestroom preventive maintenance across civil, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry disciplines.
- Working knowledge of Guest Room Management Systems (GRMS) and hotel room equipment.
- Troubleshooting, problem-solving, independent work, attention to detail, and quality workmanship.
- Communication, teamwork, time management, safety awareness, and a guest-focused attitude.
