General Technician

Job location

• Position is based at NH Collection Ibn Battuta Hotel.

Role overview

Maintenance and repairs

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on hotel assets, guest rooms, and plant equipment.
• Service and troubleshoot FCUs, AHUs, exhaust systems, and basic refrigeration; clean coils, replace filters, and clear drains.
• Repair or replace lighting, switches, sockets, distribution boards, and minor circuit faults.
• Maintain water supply, drainage, pumps, water heaters, and sanitary fixtures.
• Carry out painting, drywall, caulking, tiling, grouting, and minor carpentry or furniture repairs.

Guest service and operations

• Respond promptly to work orders from guests and departments through hotel work-order software.
• Complete in-room repairs professionally while minimizing disruption.
• Maintain shift logs, report unresolved mechanical issues, and hand over urgent tasks.

Safety and equipment

• Follow LOTO procedures, work-at-heights guidance, and PPE requirements.
• Support testing of fire alarms, smoke detectors, emergency lighting, and backup generators.
• Keep the engineering workshop clean and organized and secure tools and assets.

Qualifications and experience

• Technical diploma, vocational certificate, or equivalent trade qualification in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing.
• At least 2 years of maintenance experience; 4- or 5-star hotel or luxury commercial property experience is ideal.
• Broad basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry troubleshooting competency.
• Ability to read basic blueprints and wiring diagrams.

Skills and work demands

• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities and conversational English for guest and colleague interactions.
• Able to lift heavy items, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces.
• Flexible to work rotating shifts, including weekends, nights, and public holidays.
