Help ensure school facilities remain compliant, safe, and fully operational.
Provide a proactive and efficient service to internal and external customers.
Facilities operations
- Open and close schools according to occupancy times; inspect buildings and report faults such as damaged tiles or leaks.
- Carry out non-specialist repairs, planned maintenance, grounds audits, decoration checks, and external low-level power washing as needed.
- Maintain clean and orderly plant and switch rooms and ensure sites are left clean and tidy.
Contractors, compliance, and records
- Check subcontractor work against accepted RAMS, ensure waste is removed, and complete Waste Transfer Notes where required.
- Manage visitor sign-in and keys, ensure contractor and visitor inductions are completed, and issue Permits to Work when authorised.
- Review risk assessments and method statements; check work quality before signing field reports or closing jobs.
- Ensure appropriate PPE is used and maintained; update reporting logs and send records to the Help Desk.
- Complete planned maintenance on time, maintain L8 water hygiene compliance, and update statutory folders and alarm reports.
- Operate CCTV under the applicable guidance policy.
Coverage and support
- Cover other schools as required and participate in the on-call rota when acting in a mobile role.
- Deputise for Operations Supervisors when agreed and assist the Facilities Manager and Operations Supervisors with other duties.
Person specification
- Able to work with minimum supervision and meet deadlines.
- Willing and able to travel and work in the office or at sites as required.
- Good communication skills, understanding of financial penalties, and IT literacy.
- Take reasonable care for personal and others' health and safety and follow applicable guidance and instructions.
