AWS seeks a hands-on Data Center Engineering Operations Engineer for its data center cloud regions.
The role operates and maintains electrical and mechanical infrastructure to support customer availability and facility operations.
Engineering, operations, and safety
- Operate and maintain data center mechanical, electrical, emergency generator, HVAC, and fire/life safety equipment.
- Support UPSs, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATSs, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers.
- Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs and perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Maintain safety standards, remediate risks with other teams, and own safety initiatives and projects.
- Drive innovation and reduce facility operating costs.
- Take routine equipment readings and log temperatures, voltages, and currents; supervise contractors doing servicing or preventive maintenance.
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a similar technical focus.
- Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, including mechanical, HVAC, and controls systems.
Preferred qualification
- Two or more years of data center engineering experience is preferred.
Shift schedule
- Work four 12-hour shifts—two days followed by two nights—then four days off, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for off-duty emergency calls.
Working conditions
- The work involves outdoor weather, noisy environments, heights and ladders, and occasional movement of materials within regulated weight limits.
