Ubuntu Linux Engineer

Key Responsibilitieslinux System Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain Ubuntu Linux servers (20.04 / 22.04 / 24.04 LTS)
• Manage system updates, patching, and package lifecycle using
• apt
• and

Ansible

• **Administer users, groups, permissions, and authentication (PAM)**
• **Monitor system performance and health using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Nagios**
• **Troubleshoot OS, hardware, and application-level issues with minimal downtime**
• **Develop Bash scripts to automate operational and administrative tasks**

Networking & Security

• Configure networking components (DNS, DHCP, routing, interfaces)
• Implement firewall rules using
• ufw
• and
• iptables
• **Apply Linux hardening aligned with CIS benchmarks**
• **Manage SSL/TLS certificates and SSH key infrastructure**
• **Respond to security vulnerabilities and apply timely OS patches**

Storage, Virtualization & Cloud

• Manage storage systems including

LVM, RAID, NFS, and Samba

• **Deploy and manage virtualization using KVM/QEMU**
• or

Vmware Esxi

• **Work with MAAS (Metal as a Service)**
• for bare-metal provisioning
• Support container platforms such as

Docker, LXD, and Docker Compose

• **Assist in Kubernetes operations on Ubuntu worker nodes**
• **Support OpenStack deployments using Juju and Canonical Charms**
• **Work with OVN/OVS**
• for software-defined networking and virtual networking setups
• Contribute to MicroCloud-based hyper-converged infrastructure environments

Database Administration (PostgreSQL – Preferred)

• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases on Ubuntu
• Manage roles, schemas, and access control
• Implement backup strategies using
• pg_dump, pg_basebackup, and WAL archiving
• **Monitor and optimize query performance and database tuning**
• **Configure replication and high availability using Patroni or Repmgr**
• **Support database upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime**

Automation & Devops

• Develop and maintain
• Ansible playbooks and roles
• **Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or GitLab CI**
• **Work with Git for version control and infrastructure documentation**
• **Participate in on-call support rotation for critical incidents**
• **Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and infrastructure documentation**

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years of experience in Ubuntu/Linux system administration in production environments
• Strong experience with Bash scripting and Linux troubleshooting
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs)
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible preferred)
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, or OpenStack)
• Experience with Docker and containerized workloads
• Proficiency with Git version control

Preferred Qualifications

• PostgreSQL DBA experience (performance tuning, replication, backup/restore)
• Experience with high availability tools (Patroni, Repmgr, pgpool-II)
• Knowledge of Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD preferred)
• Linux certifications (LPIC-1/LPIC-2, RHCSA, or Linux+)
• Familiarity with ITIL practices and security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS)
• Experience with:
• **MAAS for bare-metal provisioning**
• **Juju & Canonical Charms for infrastructure automation**
• **OpenStack deployment and operations**
• **OVN/OVS for SDN and virtual networking**
