The role performs routine laboratory tests in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and guidelines.
Key responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory tests according to professional standards and guidelines.
- Manage samples, including sorting and allocation based on testing requirements.
- Process clinical chemistry, immunology and serology, autoimmune, haematology, coagulation, blood transfusion, and clinical microscopy tests.
- Analyze body fluids, blood specimens, urine, and spinal fluid; verify the accuracy of results.
- Contribute to quality improvement, risk mitigation, compliance governance, and patient safety initiatives.
- Contribute to or guide training and health and safety initiatives as needed.
- Operate, calibrate, and monitor analysers and other standard laboratory equipment; maintain temperature logs.
Required education and experience
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences or a related field.
- At least 3–5 years of full-time experience as a medical laboratory technologist in clinical chemistry.
Required skills and knowledge
- Maintain instrumentation according to manufacturer guidelines and develop standard operating procedures.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of real-time multiplex PCR and close molecular systems.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing for quality control checks and instrumentation troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of laboratory information systems and reporting.
