Role overview

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy complex solutions and review technical designs and architecture patterns.
• Promote engineering practices, automation, lean development, built-in quality, test-driven development, and agile practices.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and blameless incident post-mortems.
• Assess solution viability, project needs, existing systems, and future requirements with cross-functional teams.
• Drive high-level design, proof-of-concepts, and prototypes.
• Debug and resolve complex software issues; investigate and present new technology options for architectural review.
• Contribute expertise to sprint planning and technology communities of practice.
• Manage and mentor software engineers and ensure delivery and compliance with design and coding standards.
• Ensure enterprise tools and platforms align with approved architecture; maintain products across their lifecycle.

Qualifications and experience

• Relevant degree or honours in computer science, computational mathematics, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related field.
• At least five years of Java application development using Java 8, 11, or 17 with Spring Boot.
• Expertise with Spring frameworks, JPA, Hibernate, and JUnit or TestNG; experience with ReactJS and NextJS.
• Messaging and integration proficiency, containerisation and orchestration experience, and hybrid-cloud knowledge.
• Database expertise in Oracle SQL or similar RDBMS and NoSQL, plus REST API experience.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps, lean and test-driven development, automated deployment, SRE principles, and scalable event-driven or reactive systems.
• Experience in technology evaluation, vendor selection, and DevOps platform management; strong problem-solving, agile, and production-support capabilities.
