Senior Technical Software Engineer - API Platform (Kong)
Role Overview
A fully participating member of an agile feature team designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise API platform capabilities and related infrastructure.
The role develops and operates API gateway solutions, including Kong, to provide secure, scalable, and reliable API services.
Contributes to software engineering strategy, standards, and guidelines, and supports planning, estimation, deployment, release, hyper-care, and operations.

A fully participating member of an agile feature team designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise API platform capabilities and related infrastructure.
The role develops and operates API gateway solutions, including Kong, to provide secure, scalable, and reliable API services.
Contributes to software engineering strategy, standards, and guidelines, and supports planning, estimation, deployment, release, hyper-care, and operations.
Responsibilities
- Deliver technical design, development, and deployment of complex product solutions and conduct technical design reviews.
- Drive engineering practices, process automation, lean development, built-in quality, test-driven development, and agile practices.
- Perform root-cause analysis and blameless incident post-mortems.
- Evaluate solution viability, project needs, and existing approaches; develop proof-of-concepts and prototypes.
- Debug complex issues, assess new technologies, and present alternatives for architectural review.
- Contribute technical expertise to sprint planning and technology communities of practice.
- Mentor engineers and ensure technical delivery follows design and coding standards.
- Use enterprise platforms and tools in line with approved architecture; perform product maintenance with other teams.
Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience in Information Technology.
Knowledge and skills
- Strong experience building, operating, and supporting enterprise-scale API platforms using Kong API Gateway.
- Expertise in secure, scalable RESTful and GraphQL APIs, microservices, and integration platforms.
- Hands-on experience designing and managing asynchronous APIs and event-driven or message-based integration patterns.
- IaC experience with Terraform and Ansible, and source control and collaboration using GitLab.
- Experience managing DevSecOps pipelines using GitLab CI/CD.
- Experience with Domain-Driven Design and Test-Driven Development in large, cross-functional organizations.
- Programming and automation skills in Java and Python; understanding of cloud concepts and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of Linux, networking, TCP/IP, load balancing, security, and observability; experience with Dynatrace.
- Experience with integration tools including TIBCO BusinessWorks, SnapLogic, and Solace.
