Role purpose

Lead Performance Engineer in Emirates Group IT's Quality Engineering team, responsible for performance, availability, scalability, and reliability across products in an agile release train.

The role promotes earlier, faster testing and built-in quality in collaboration with technical and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop performance engineering and testing strategy, including cross-program dependencies.
  • Design and execute complex scenarios, establish baselines, and detect regressions or anomalies.
  • Participate throughout the performance engineering lifecycle and review architecture for performance and reliability improvements.
  • Maintain NFR backlogs with architects and product owners and ensure features and epics have defined NFRs.
  • Build and update workload models with IT and business stakeholders for effective non-functional testing.
  • Investigate performance and availability issues to reduce production defect leakage.
  • Set performance gates in CI/CD pipelines and implement performance testing frameworks for product teams.
  • Enable developers and testers to use frameworks and provide feedback to the Senior Principal Performance Engineer on framework improvements.
  • Analyze test results statistically using data from multiple sources.

Required qualifications

  • At least 8 years of hands-on performance engineering, testing, profiling, and tuning experience on highly available, scalable, mission-critical applications.
  • At least 3 years leading performance engineering practices across web, mobile, and desktop products.
  • Expertise in application and system performance tuning and bottleneck identification; proficiency with YourKit and JProfiler.
  • Extensive load testing experience with tools such as LoadRunner, Gatling, or JMeter and client-side tools such as Sitespeed.io, WebPageTest, or Lighthouse.
  • Advanced software architecture knowledge and ability to recommend performance improvements.
  • Proficiency in APM, infrastructure monitoring, OpenTelemetry, logging, and tracing.
  • Ability to create data-driven workload models from logs, APM, metrics, and user behavior, deriving concurrency, transaction mix, and traffic distribution.
  • Experience in cloud, on-premises, or hybrid environments, with Kubernetes, containers, and orchestration.
  • In-depth relational and NoSQL database knowledge and ability to resolve database performance issues.
  • DevOps familiarity and experience establishing CI/CD performance gates.

Preferred skills

  • Resiliency testing and chaos engineering tools.
  • Capacity planning and resource forecasting.
  • Service virtualization and mocking tools.
  • Infrastructure as Code and configuration management, including Terraform, Ansible, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Operational Acceptance Testing, including observability and infrastructure or environment readiness.

Salary and benefits

  • The posting mentions an attractive tax-free salary and travel benefits, including discounts on flights and hotel stays; no salary amount or pay cadence is specified.

Location

  • The posting invites candidates to join the team in Dubai; it does not explicitly state an onsite, hybrid, or remote work arrangement.
