Senior Technical Software Engineer

Job purpose

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy complex solutions within the relevant product and conduct technical design reviews.
• Drive engineering practices, process automation, lean development, built-in quality, test-driven development, and agile practices.
• Perform root-cause analysis and contribute to blameless incident post-mortems.
• Assess solution viability, business needs, future requirements, and existing solutions with cross-functional teams.
• Develop high-level designs, proofs of concept, and prototypes to validate ideas.
• Investigate, debug, and fix complex issues, including rare conditions and edge cases.
• Evaluate technologies and present alternatives for architectural review.
• Contribute technical expertise to sprint and work planning and technology communities of practice.
• Manage and mentor Software Engineers, supporting skill development, technical delivery, and adherence to standards.
• Use enterprise platforms, tools, and libraries in line with approved technology architecture.
• Perform corrective, adaptive, preventative, and perfective product maintenance with other teams.
• Provide production support for business-critical applications.

Qualifications and experience

• Degree or honours qualification in a relevant field such as computer science, computational mathematics, computer engineering, or software engineering.
• At least 5 years of Java application development experience using Java 8, 11, or 17 with Spring Boot.
• Expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring WebFlux, JPA, Hibernate, and JUnit or TestNG.
• Experience with ReactJS and NextJS; messaging and integration technologies include Solace, Tibco, and Kafka.
• Hands-on containerization and orchestration experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift; knowledge of hybrid cloud architecture using AWS or Azure.
• Database expertise in Oracle SQL or similar RDBMS and NoSQL, and experience building RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, lean software development, test-driven development, and automated deployments.
• Ability to design event-driven architectures, reactive programming solutions, and scalable systems following SRE and code review practices.
• Experience in technology evaluation, vendor selection, and management of DevOps platforms, data pipelines, code management, and CI/CD.
• Strong problem-solving skills, agile development experience, and ability to support business-critical production applications.
