Senior Software Network Test Engineer – Customer Solution Validation

Workplace

• Hybrid role requiring an average of two days per week in an HPE office.

Solution validation and customer engagement

• Develop validation strategies from customer deployments, business requirements, architectures, and operating environments.
• Drive validation of customer solutions and complex networking deployments.
• Collaborate with customers and field, architecture, sales engineering, and services teams on real-world validation and operational readiness.
• Participate in design workshops and architecture reviews to improve reliability, scalability, observability, and serviceability.
• Create repeatable validation frameworks and present technical findings, risk assessments, recommendations, and stakeholder updates.

Automation and quality engineering

• Contribute to automation strategy and implement scalable frameworks for functional, integration, system, resiliency, scale, performance, and solution validation.
• Establish continuous validation practices and standards for CI/CD pipelines.
• Improve automation infrastructure and tooling, including support for AI-assisted engineering practices.
• Simplify validation workflows and reduce operational costs through automation.

Testing and technical leadership

• Validate distributed, multi-component platforms at scale and use logs, metrics, traces, telemetry, and diagnostic frameworks to troubleshoot failures.
• Investigate root causes across teams and technology domains; distinguish product defects from infrastructure, automation, and environmental issues.
• Recommend improvements to testability, diagnosability, and operational excellence.
• Provide technical expertise, align teams on quality objectives, mentor engineers, and share technical knowledge.

Required qualifications

• Strong programming expertise in Python, Go, or C++, with proficiency in at least one language.
• Experience designing automation frameworks, delivering automation initiatives, and integrating large-scale automated testing into CI/CD.
• Strong understanding of Linux/UNIX, networking, processes, memory management, and system internals.
• Extensive distributed-system validation and hands-on multi-vendor network configuration and validation experience.
• Experience supporting service provider, enterprise, and cloud networking deployments; knowledge of performance testing and Ixia or Spirent.
• Expertise in system-level and end-to-end testing, including longevity, resiliency, interoperability, scale, performance, fault injection, and recovery.
• Advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, complex defect investigation, technical guidance, and engineer mentoring experience.

Preferred qualifications

• 10+ years of industry experience and advanced Layer 2, Layer 3, TCP/IP, routing, MPLS, EVPN, and data center networking expertise.
• Experience with network operating systems, cloud infrastructure, observability platforms, and distributed architectures; working knowledge of JUNOS.
• JNCIE, CCIE, or equivalent certification; experience using AI-assisted engineering tools.
• Innovation record such as patents, publications, standards contributions, or architectural leadership.

Compensation

• Annual base salary range in California: USD 136,500–276,500; variable incentives may also be offered.
