Provides strategic, commercially focused legal support across shipping, maritime, port, terminal, and logistics operations.
Works with business leaders and operational teams to identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks.
Key responsibilities
- Advise on maritime operations, contracts, cargo claims, vessel incidents, insurance, disputes, and regulatory compliance.
- Draft and negotiate charterparties, vessel agreements, ship agency contracts, bills of lading, and other commercial agreements.
- Manage external counsel and collaborate with operational, commercial, finance, insurance, compliance, and senior management teams.
- Support standard contract terms, legal procedures, risk frameworks, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer with 6–8 years of post-qualification experience in shipping, maritime, or related commercial legal matters.
- Significant maritime legal experience in a relevant business or reputable maritime law firm.
- Strong knowledge of maritime contracts, disputes, claims, insurance, UAE law, and relevant international frameworks.
- Excellent English is required; Arabic proficiency is advantageous.
Required and preferred skills
- Required: maritime legal expertise, contract drafting and negotiation, dispute management, regulatory compliance, risk management, and cross-border advisory.
- Preferred: experience with P&I claims, marine insurance, vessel incidents, pollution liabilities, and maritime-related sectors.
- Required: commercial judgment, stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, and independent decision-making.
