Senior Design Manager - MEP (Electrical)
Role Overview
Oversee consultant-led electrical and power system design across project stages, ensuring alignment with project requirements, approved briefs, scopes of work, standards, and authority regulations.
Provide technical leadership and design governance for power distribution, LV/MV interfaces, substations, switchgear, emergency power, ELV integration, and smart city infrastructure.
Review and assure consultant outputs; the role does not produce detailed designs.
Support the Design Director with technical assurance, cost alignment, value engineering, and delivery readiness.

Role overview

Support the Design Director with technical assurance, cost alignment, value engineering, and delivery readiness.
Design leadership and consultant management
- Lead electrical design reviews, compliance reviews, change management, and stage-gate approvals; establish portfolio standards and technical guidelines.
- Manage electrical, MEP, and multidisciplinary consultants, review and challenge submissions, and monitor quality, schedule, and compliance.
- Participate in consultant selection, technical evaluations, and procurement activities.
Electrical systems oversight
- Oversee MV infrastructure, LV distribution, switchgear, main distribution boards, substations, and electrical rooms.
- Oversee emergency and backup power, UPS, generators, earthing, lightning protection, external power networks, street lighting, smart city electrical infrastructure, ELV interfaces, and building technologies.
Coordination and technical assurance
- Integrate electrical design with architectural, structural, mechanical, ICT, security, transportation, and utility designs; lead workshops to resolve clashes and interface risks.
- Review load demand, load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, power quality, reliability, and redundancy studies.
- Check compliance, constructability, maintainability, operational readiness, resilience, sustainability, and asset-management alignment.
Cost and delivery support
- Align designs with approved budgets and project objectives; lead value engineering and identify technical, schedule, and cost risks with mitigation measures.
- Support lifecycle cost and whole-life asset value assessments.
- Support design-to-construction transitions, technical queries, shop drawing reviews, site coordination, testing, commissioning, handover, and operational readiness activities.
Required qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of electrical engineering design and project delivery experience.
- Minimum 7 years in senior design management or leadership roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience managing consultant-led teams on large-scale developments or infrastructure projects.
- Extensive experience with power distribution, LV/MV infrastructure, substations, switchgear, and critical electrical systems.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or Engineering Management is preferred.
- Experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC mega-project developments is preferred.
