About Al Etihad Payments

Al Etihad Payments is the UAE’s designated retail payments entity, developing and operating infrastructure, standards, and solutions for the UAE economy.

The company works with licensed financial institutions and payment service providers and supports cashless society and national digitization objectives.

Role overview

Lead database platform design, administration, security, and optimization, with deep Oracle expertise and oversight of MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.

Act as the technical authority and escalation point for the database team and ensure mission-critical payment systems meet availability, performance, and regulatory-compliance needs.

Database architecture and leadership

  • Define architecture, standards, and best practices across Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
  • Handle escalated complex incidents, performance issues, and root-cause analysis; lead, mentor, and assign work to the DBA team and review its changes and designs.
  • Evaluate technologies and contribute to the technology roadmap.

Availability, performance, and projects

  • Design and govern high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions, including Oracle RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, and replication for open-source databases.
  • Lead performance tuning, capacity planning, and growth forecasting; own backup and recovery strategy and lead disaster-recovery drills.
  • Plan and lead major upgrades, migrations, consolidations, and cloud database adoption.
  • Coordinate with application and architecture teams on data models, schema design, and deployment practices; review and approve database changes.

Security and compliance

  • Define database security standards for hardening, encryption, auditing, and privileged access.
  • Oversee integration with DAM, PAM, and vulnerability-management platforms.
  • Represent the database function in PCI DSS, ISO 27001, and audits; own remediation of findings and maintain policies, documentation, and runbooks.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of database administration experience, including at least 7 years on Oracle in large production environments and at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
  • OCP certification is required; OCM is a strong advantage. MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB certifications are preferred.
  • Banking, payments, or other highly regulated environment experience is highly preferred.

Required technical and leadership skills

  • Expert Oracle administration covering RAC, ASM, Data Guard, GoldenGate, RMAN, OEM, and Exadata.
  • Hands-on MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB administration, replication, and clustering.
  • Advanced SQL and PL/SQL tuning and troubleshooting; database security, encryption, and audit design.
  • Cloud database services such as Azure SQL, Amazon RDS, and Oracle Cloud, plus scripting automation.
  • Leadership, mentoring, stakeholder management, and strong communication skills.

Benefits and work environment

  • The employer describes a flexible modern work environment and a collaborative team.
  • Compensation package includes an annual bonus and additional benefits such as child educational allowance and annual flight tickets where eligible.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage is provided.
