Senior Backup & Storage Engineer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Manage and support enterprise backup and storage infrastructure.
• Configure and troubleshoot backup and recovery solutions, policies, schedules, retention, and recovery procedures.
• Administer SAN, NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and enterprise storage systems.
• Monitor and optimize backup performance, capacity, replication, and infrastructure availability.
• Implement disaster recovery, business continuity, restoration, and data protection strategies.
• Perform backup validation, recovery testing, storage health checks, and incident troubleshooting.
• Support storage provisioning, configuration, upgrades, patching, and migrations.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, virtualization, networking, and security teams; maintain documentation and support incident, problem, and change management.

Required qualifications

• At least 8 years of relevant experience in backup engineering, storage administration, enterprise infrastructure, or data protection.
• Hands-on expertise in enterprise backup and recovery, storage administration, SAN/NAS, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with Veeam Backup & Replication, Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, or equivalent; and Dell EMC, NetApp, HPE Storage, IBM Storage, or equivalent platforms.
• Knowledge of SAN, NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, RAID, storage replication, and provisioning.
• Experience supporting Windows Server, Linux, VMware, or other enterprise environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, monitoring, performance optimization, and incident resolution skills.
• Understanding of retention, RPO/RTO, disaster recovery planning, and data protection; relevant technical certification and strong communication/documentation skills.

Preferred experience

• Veeam VMCE, Dell EMC Proven Professional, NetApp NCDA, Commvault, or Veritas certifications are preferred.
• Large-scale data center and mission-critical infrastructure experience is preferred.
• Cloud backup, hybrid cloud storage, Azure Backup, AWS Backup, or S3-compatible storage exposure is preferred.
• Immutable backups, ransomware recovery, backup security, data retention compliance, managed IT services, and ITIL-based service experience are preferred.

Work setup

• Full onsite, five days per week; work location stated as Abu Dhabi or Dubai, UAE.
• Candidates must be based in the UAE.
• Contract duration is 12 months; engagement described as contract/freelance.
