Role overview

Responsibilities

• Architect and build high-performance Android applications in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose.
• Build persistent real-time connections, reconnect and backoff, message ordering, receipts, typing and presence, and live feed updates.
• Build offline-first storage and synchronization with Room or SQLDelight, Coroutines, and Flow.
• Deliver messages, alerts, and calls under Doze and OEM battery limits using FCM, WorkManager, foreground services, and ConnectionService.
• Implement chunked media transfer, compression, voice notes, CameraX, and Media3 features.
• Profile performance, memory, ANRs, and crash stability on low-end devices.
• Apply Android Keystore, certificate pinning, and end-to-end encryption support.
• Coordinate protocol design and feature parity with backend, iOS, and QA teams.
• Own Google Play releases and CI/CD.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional Android development and production apps live on Google Play.
• Expertise in Kotlin, Coroutines/Flow, Jetpack Compose, MVVM or Clean Architecture, and Hilt or Dagger.
• Working knowledge of XMPP or an equivalent real-time protocol such as WebSocket or MQTT.
• Deep understanding of Android background execution, notification delivery, and device fragmentation.
• Experience with JUnit and Espresso, Git, and code review practices.
• Hands-on real-time experience is required; instant messaging or chat experience is strongly preferred, and live feeds, social, or live-update apps are also considered.

Additional qualifications

• Messaging backend familiarity such as ejabberd or MongooseIM is a plus; Erlang coding is not required.
• End-to-end encryption, Signal protocol, WebRTC calls, Kotlin Multiplatform, news or social apps, Arabic/RTL UI, and Swift or Flutter exposure are nice to have.

• Competitive package based on experience, plus a UAE employment visa.
