Role overview

Design and pavement management

• Design and evaluate flexible, rigid and composite airfield pavements using FAARFIELD, COMFAA or similar tools; develop traffic forecasts, ACR/PCR classifications and overload analyses.
• Plan and interpret geotechnical investigations, including CBR, FWD/HWD and PCI, and define performance requirements for asphalt, concrete and stabilised materials.
• Develop Airfield Pavement Management Systems and maintenance, overlay and reconstruction strategies suited to operational possession windows.
• Design airport access roads, circulation layouts and parking interfaces using Civil 3D, coordinated with drainage, utilities and lighting.

Construction and digital workflows

• Review contractor mix designs, method statements and trial sections; lead site inspections and forensic defect investigations for quality control.
• Use approved AI-assisted automation and data analytics to support option studies, calculations and technical reporting while validating outputs and documenting assumptions.
• Support safe, durable, maintainable and cost-effective infrastructure delivery.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from a recognised institution.
• At least eight years of relevant civil engineering design experience, including demonstrable airfield pavement design or evaluation experience.
• Hands-on capability with FAARFIELD, COMFAA, BAKFAA, ELMOD, MicroPAVER, PAVEAIR or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of pavement mechanics, geotechnical engineering, materials, aircraft loading, ACR/PCR classification and construction quality requirements.
• Master’s degree in pavement, highway or geotechnical engineering is advantageous.

Technical skills

• Road geometric design experience using Civil 3D, OpenRoads or equivalent; AutoTURN, AviPLAN or similar swept-path tools are advantageous.
• Advanced AutoCAD and Civil 3D capability and working knowledge of BIM coordination, GIS and Common Data Environment workflows.
• Competence in AI-assisted engineering workflows, output validation, data-protection awareness and documentation of assumptions.
