MTU Mechanic

Job purpose

Responsibilities

• Overhaul, service, maintain, and repair MTU series 396, 956, or 1163 engines and related systems.
• Diagnose mechanical failures, drivability issues, and equipment faults; recommend and implement repairs using computerized diagnostics.
• Perform preventive maintenance to manufacturer and company standards.
• Prepare parts and material lists; complete job cards, time bookings, service reports, and failure reports.
• Use tools and workshop equipment safely; maintain housekeeping and inspect tools and equipment for defects.
• Comply with quality, environmental, health, and safety requirements; work with colleagues to complete service activities on schedule.
• Stay current with technical developments and industry practices through ongoing learning and training.

Qualifications and experience

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant mechanical or diesel-engine technical/vocational qualification.
• At least 5 years of experience in diesel engine overhaul, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Hands-on experience with MTU series 396, 956, or 1163 engines; marine, power-generation, or industrial engine experience is preferred.
• Strong engine diagnostics, mechanical systems, and preventive maintenance knowledge; familiarity with MTU service standards and workshop procedures.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, drawings, and service documentation.
