About Gulf Rock

Gulf Rock is a specialist rock engineering company supporting infrastructure, mining, and development projects across the Gulf region.

The company operates across the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia and describes its work as guided by safety, planning, and disciplined execution.

Role

Gulf Rock Engineering is expanding its underground mining operations and seeks experienced long-hole drillers.

The role is full-time and based in Oman.

Candidates whose experience is limited to Simba or Epiroc long-hole drills are not considered.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate DL432i, DL421, and/or DL422i production drilling rigs safely and efficiently.
  • Set up equipment using drill plans, stope designs, and survey markings; drill production rings to specified depths, angles, and tolerances.
  • Inspect equipment, report mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, and perform basic preventive maintenance and routine servicing.
  • Monitor drilling performance and ground conditions; interpret mine plans, layouts, and production instructions.
  • Maintain drilling records, equipment logs, and shift reports.
  • Follow mine safety, environmental, and company procedures; maintain a safe underground work area.
  • Work with mine engineers, surveyors, supervisors, and charge-up crews; participate in safety meetings and emergency response activities.

Experience and qualifications

  • At least 3–5 years of underground long-hole production drilling experience operating a Sandvik DL432i, DL421, or DL422i rig.
  • High School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Formal underground mining or drilling training is preferred.
  • Valid equipment operator certification or licence where applicable.
  • First Aid and Mine Safety certifications are advantageous.
  • Strong drilling-method knowledge, ability to meet accuracy and productivity targets, and knowledge of underground safety standards.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting aptitude, communication and teamwork skills, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work in remote mining environments on rotational shifts.
  • Underground hard-rock mining, relevant metal mining, and long-hole open stoping experience are preferred.

Performance measures

Performance measures include metres drilled per shift, drilling accuracy, equipment utilization, production targets, safety compliance, downtime attributable to operator error, and completion of inspections and maintenance checks.
