Responsibilities may cover restaurant, bar, and room-service operations where applicable.
Education and experience
- High-school diploma or GED plus four years of experience in food and beverage, culinary, or a related professional area.
- Alternatively, a related two-year degree plus two years of relevant experience.
Operations and team leadership
- Oversee daily restaurant operations and maintain service and sanitation standards; assist with recipe development.
- Review staffing, supervise employees, maintain productivity, and cover duties when staff are absent.
- Lead, coach, and train staff; set goals, performance standards, and development plans.
- Ensure compliance with food and beverage procedures, applicable laws, food handling and hygiene standards, and alcohol regulations.
Guest service and financial performance
- Deliver excellent guest service, resolve complaints, collect guest feedback, and implement corrective actions.
- Manage service delivery from greeting and order handling through food delivery, special requests, payment, and invitations to return.
- Monitor guest satisfaction and service quality and incorporate improvement into team meetings.
- Oversee departmental financial matters, including purchasing and invoice payments.
Additional duties
- Maintain open communication, fairness, collaboration, and recognition among staff; solicit and address employee feedback.
- Analyze information and results to select solutions and resolve problems.
- Assist servers and hosts with floor cleaning during meals and high-demand periods.
- Supervise daily shift work when the assistant restaurant manager is absent.
