MEP Designer

Job purpose

Responsibilities

• Prepare MEP designs, drawings, and BOQs based on project requirements.
• Develop high-level and detailed cost estimates for MEP works.
• Conduct site surveys before design and report existing conditions and requirements.
• Develop and coordinate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing designs, ensuring systems are integrated.
• Propose value engineering solutions that optimize cost without compromising design or operations.
• Review material submittals, technical specifications, and shop drawings against approved designs.
• Conduct site inspections to verify work follows approved drawings and specifications.
• Coordinate with design and construction teams, contractors, consultants, and suppliers to resolve issues.
• Support testing, commissioning, snagging, and handover of MEP systems where required.
• Ensure compliance with company MEP guidelines, local authority requirements, and applicable standards.
• Prepare pre-design estimates, quantity take-offs, measurements, valuations, tender and contract documents, and BOQs.
• Liaise with project managers, quantity surveyors, engineers, and stakeholders on financial information.

Education and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum six years of experience as an MEP Design Engineer.
• Experience in retail, hospitality, or F&B brands is a plus.

Tools and technical knowledge

• Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, HAP, duct sizer, and pipe sizers is required.
• Strong knowledge of MEP design principles, practices, works, and specifications across electrical and mechanical systems.
• Good knowledge of pre-contract procedures, AutoCAD, local authority requirements, and compliance.
• Excellent architectural drawing-reading skills and proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
• Knowledge of MEP equipment and materials, and ability to assess and approve material submittals.
• Stay aware of current construction technologies.

Additional capabilities

• Prepare estimates with minimal design information and read architectural or interior design drawings to prepare MEP BOQs.
• Apply value management and develop ideas to improve service efficiency and construction quality and reduce capital expenditure.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders, meet deadlines, work independently, and solve problems through team input, influence, and negotiation.
