Mechanical Technician

Role overview

Experience

• 7 to 9 years of experience as a Mechanical Technician in poultry processing or food manufacturing.
• Experience in further processing plants or protein factories is highly preferred.
• Experience with JBT, GEA, BW Flexible, Ishida, and listed processing equipment is highly preferred.
• Experience with packaging machinery, including filling, sealing, vacuum pumps, labellers, inkjet, and X-ray equipment, is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in using CMMS is highly preferred.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

• Operate, inspect, and maintain preparation, processing, and packing equipment, including mixers, grinders, tumblers, cutting and slicing machines, X-ray systems, forming and breading machines, fryers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging equipment.
• Maintain scalders and defeathering machines and keep machinery operating at optimal capacity and efficiency.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, use food-grade lubricants, inspect bearings, chains, belts, sprockets, shafts, seals, and gearboxes, and replace worn parts.
• Respond to breakdowns, identify root causes, repair or replace components such as motors, pumps, valves, and pneumatic or hydraulic systems, and test equipment before return to operation.

Food safety and equipment projects

• Comply with food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP and ISO 22000; prevent contamination and assist with audits and inspections.
• Reassemble equipment after cleaning and sanitation, using stainless steel fasteners and food-safe materials where required.
• Assist with installation, alignment, and commissioning of machines and production lines; interpret drawings, manuals, and OEM documentation.
• Coordinate with suppliers or contractors during upgrades and shutdowns; monitor pumps and pipelines for abnormal vibration, noise, or leaks.
• Complete work orders and breakdown reports, update spare parts usage and inventory requests, and record daily maintenance and handover notes.
