Malayalam Team Lead

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Spot-check Malayalam items, provide ongoing feedback, and escalate recurring or critical quality issues.
• Communicate guideline, project, workflow, and quality updates to trainers and QAs through Discord.
• Answer questions on Malayalam wording, register, translation fidelity, cultural context, Kerala and diaspora usage, and edge cases.
• Contact inactive contributors, encourage activation, track follow-ups, and flag availability issues.
• Maintain style guides, trackers, FAQs, quality notes, examples, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
• Schedule and run training calls on project expectations, workflows, rubrics, and Malayalam-specific requirements.
• Align trainer and QA use of language guidelines and communicate updates as projects evolve.
• Identify recurring gaps, propose workflow improvements, and help develop scalable QA processes.

Your Profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Malayalam, Linguistics, Translation, Communications, Journalism, English, Education, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
• Native or near-native Malayalam proficiency with strong reading and writing skills; strong English for guidelines and team communication.
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in language, content review, localization, education, annotation, or related workflows.
• Strong knowledge of Malayalam grammar, spelling, punctuation, tone, register, regional variation, and cultural context.
• Ability to assess content against detailed rubrics and identify mistranslation, unnatural tone, hallucinations, ambiguity, and inconsistent terminology.
• Remote-team leadership or support experience is strongly preferred.
• Comfort with remote tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
• Strong attention to detail and organization in maintaining quality documentation.
• AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, or rubric-based LLM QA experience is a strong plus.
