Lead Electrical Engineer

Role overview

Team leadership

• Lead the electrical engineering team and allocate activities based on priorities and competence.
• Provide technical direction, mentoring, and support; promote professional development and competency.
• Monitor workload, resources, productivity, and deliverable progress, and report resource needs to management.
• Support recruitment, technical interviews, and candidate assessment when required.
• Promote consistent technical standards and engineering practices across projects.

Electrical design scope

• Oversee medium- and low-voltage distribution, utility connections, substations, transformers, switchgear, distribution systems, motor-control centres, generators, UPS, batteries, and automatic transfer systems.
• Cover internal, external, street, and emergency lighting; small-power systems; earthing; lightning protection; cable distribution and containment; cable corridors, duct banks, and manholes.
• Manage power interfaces with utility, mechanical, and process systems, and applicable renewable-energy, photovoltaic, and EV-charging interfaces.

Calculations and reviews

• Ensure preparation and independent review of load schedules, maximum-demand and diversity calculations, and transformer, generator, UPS, and cable sizing.
• Review voltage drop, short circuit, protection coordination, selectivity, arc flash where required, earthing, lightning, lighting, harmonic, power-quality, motor-starting, and power-factor calculations as applicable.
• Ensure appropriate engineering software and methods are used and calculations are independently checked before issue.

Design deliverables

• Lead and review design basis reports, criteria, technical specifications, single-line diagrams, load and equipment schedules, and data sheets.
• Review electrical, lighting, earthing, lightning-protection, cable-routing, infrastructure, utility-interface, substation, and equipment-room layouts.
• Lead cable and interface schedules, bills of quantities, material specifications, tender documentation, technical reports, and authority submission packages.

Regulatory compliance

• Ensure applicable Saudi Building Code compliance, including SBC 401 – Saudi Electrical Code.
• Apply Saudi Electricity Company requirements and engineering standards.
• Apply the Saudi Arabian Distribution Code and Saudi Grid Code where applicable.
• Apply Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu standards where applicable, along with project-specific authority requirements.
