Summary

The Laundry Attendant, reporting directly to the Laundry Supervisor, is responsible for providing a consistent supply of clean linens and garments for guests and hotel operations.

This role ensures all linens, towels, and guest laundry are properly cleaned, folded, and stored while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sort soiled linens, towels, uniforms, and other laundry items by color, fabric, and degree of soil.
  • Load and operate washing machines, dryers, and other laundry equipment according to established standards and procedures.
  • Add appropriate cleaning detergents, softeners, and other chemicals in correct proportions.
  • Fold and stack linens, towels, and garments neatly for proper storage and distribution.
  • Use pressing and ironing equipment as necessary to ensure wrinkle-free laundry.
  • Inspect cleaned items to ensure they meet hotel standards (free from stains, damage, or missing items).
  • Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and linens, reporting shortages to the supervisor.
  • Restock housekeeping carts and storage rooms with freshly laundered items as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of laundry operations, such as the number of loads washed, damaged items, and any special guest laundry requests.
  • Provide laundry and dry-cleaning services for guests as requested.
  • Handle guest laundry with care, following special instructions for delicate items or special fabrics.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all laundry equipment by reporting any malfunctions to the maintenance department.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and hotel policies regarding the use of chemicals and laundry equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laundry area, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Assist the housekeeping department with any additional tasks, such as room linen replenishment, as needed.
  • Support other laundry team members during high-demand periods or special events.
  • Cleans machineries and work areas.
  • Checks the logbook for Guest Laundry
  • Posts Guest Laundry bills before delivery
  • Delivers Guest laundry as per room number and guest name
  • Ensures that the Laundry policies, systems, procedures and standards are followed on the floor.
  • Ensures safety and hygiene standards are followed in the Laundry.
  • Ensures 100% compliance with all mandatory training.

Background

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED equivalent is generally preferred but seldom required.
  • Experience: Numerous entry-level positions provide on-the-job training; however, commercial or hospitality settings typically seek candidates with 1 to 3 years of experience in housekeeping or laundry settings.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work non-traditional hours, such as early mornings, evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Focus on Detail: Accuracy in verifying tags, identifying rips, sorting colors, and addressing tough stains.
  • Communication: Fundamental reading and spoken skills to adhere to instructions, tag packages, and respond to customer inquiries courteously.
