Kitchen Steward

Role summary

Stewarding duties

• Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation in kitchen and service areas; clean floors, work surfaces, dishwashing areas, storage areas, and waste disposal areas.
• Wash and sanitize utensils, crockery, cutlery, glassware, and kitchen equipment, keeping clean items available during service.
• Operate and maintain dishwashing machines and cleaning equipment safely.
• Follow HACCP, food safety, hygiene, and restaurant SOPs; handle and store cleaning chemicals safely.
• Segregate, collect, and dispose of waste according to company and municipality requirements; keep stewarding and back-of-house areas organized.
• Support non-cooking kitchen tasks and opening, closing, and peak service operations.
• Handle equipment and tableware carefully; check supplies and report shortages, damage, or hygiene issues.
• Work with kitchen and restaurant teams, follow supervisor instructions, and participate in hygiene, safety, and operational training.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Steward, Kitchen Steward, Dishwasher, Cleaner, or similar is preferred.
• Restaurant, hotel, catering, or food and beverage experience is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of food hygiene, sanitation, and HACCP is preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment; physically fit and comfortable standing for long periods and handling kitchen equipment.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Good teamwork and communication; reliability, punctuality, ability to follow instructions, willingness to learn, and professional personal hygiene and grooming.
