IBM Cognos Analytics Developer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Gather customer requirements and translate them into reporting and analytics solutions.
• Develop complex operational, analytical, and executive reports, interactive dashboards, KPI scorecards, and self-service analytics.
• Build drill-down, drill-through, parameterized, scheduled, and bursting reports; develop calculations, metrics, prompts, filters, and custom expressions.
• Maintain multidimensional data models, Framework Manager models, and data modules; build and optimize OLAP and data cubes.
• Integrate Cognos with Maximo, enterprise databases, third-party applications, and 3D Dashboard visualization capabilities.
• Tune performance, troubleshoot issues, support production environments, and maintain data accuracy, consistency, and governance.
• Create reusable reporting components, collaborate across project teams, and prepare technical documentation and knowledge-transfer materials.

Technical skills

• Required technologies include IBM Cognos Analytics, Report Studio, Cognos Dashboard, Framework Manager, Data Modules, and Cognos Administration.
• Required reporting capabilities include complex report development, executive and KPI dashboards, drill-through, scheduled and bursting reports, data visualization, and analytical reporting.
• Required data skills include advanced SQL, data and metadata modeling, OLAP and data cubes, star and snowflake schemas, ETL concepts, and performance tuning.
• Database experience may include IBM Db2, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other enterprise relational databases.
• Integration skills include REST APIs, JDBC/ODBC, Maximo Application Suite, TNCP Performance Dashboard, 3D Dashboard integration, and enterprise data integration.

Required experience and qualifications

• At least 5 years of hands-on IBM Cognos Analytics experience and proven enterprise report and dashboard development experience.
• Strong Framework Manager and metadata modeling experience; experience designing and maintaining OLAP or data cubes.
• Experience integrating Cognos with enterprise applications, including IBM Maximo Application Suite; strong SQL development, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Ability to translate business requirements into scalable reporting solutions.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field; equivalent professional experience is considered.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, presentation, documentation, and solution-design skills; able to work independently and collaboratively and interact with customers.

Preferred qualifications

• IBM Cognos Analytics certification; Maximo Application Suite experience; dashboards for Maximo Monitor or Maximo Visual Inspection; data warehousing and BI best practices; OpenShift or cloud deployments; Python or scripting for automation are preferred or advantageous.
• Cognos Event Studio is preferred.
