About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Head – Database Architecture to design and scale a hybrid database ecosystem using MongoDB and PostgreSQL, deployed in a cloud-native environment.

AI-readiness is a strategic priority. This role will architect databases not just for transactions, but for analytics, automation, and AI-driven workflows.

You will own:

• Database design & architecture
• Performance & scalability
• Data security & compliance
• Cloud-native DB strategy
• AI-enabled data infrastructure

Core Expectations

This role requires deep, hands-on expertise in:

✔ MongoDB (document model, scaling, optimization)
✔ PostgreSQL (transaction-heavy systems, indexing, performance tuning)
✔ Cloud-managed DB services
✔ AI-ready data architecture
✔ High-availability distributed systems

Key Responsibilities

1️ Hybrid Database Architecture (MongoDB + PostgreSQL)

• Design hybrid architecture strategy (SQL + NoSQL separation of concerns)
• Define when to use MongoDB vs PostgreSQL
• Design transactional schema in PostgreSQL (ACID compliance)
• Design scalable document schema in MongoDB
• Implement replication, partitioning & sharding strategies
• Optimize high-concurrency workloads
• Design event-driven data flows between DB systems
• Ensure cross-database data consistency

2️ PostgreSQL (Deep Expertise Required)

• Advanced schema design & normalization strategy
• Indexing, query plan analysis & performance tuning
• Stored procedures (when required)
• Transaction isolation & locking strategies
• High availability (read replicas, failover)
• Backup & disaster recovery planning
• Partitioning for high-volume tables
• Performance benchmarking under load

3️ MongoDB (Advanced Architecture Knowledge)

• Schema modelling for scalable document storage
• Aggregation pipeline optimization
• Sharding & horizontal scaling
• Replica sets configuration
• Index design & query optimization
• TTL and memory optimization
• MongoDB Atlas configuration (if cloud-managed)

4️ Cloud-Native Database Strategy

Strong exposure to:

• AWS / Azure / GCP
• EC2 / Virtual Machine
• Storage & IOPS

Responsibilities include:

• Designing HA & multi-AZ DB setups
• Auto-scaling strategies
• Cloud backup & snapshot management
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
• Cost optimization
• Cloud monitoring integration

Must understand:

• Multi-region replication
• Failover strategies
• DB performance under load balancers
• Secure VPC architecture

5️ AI-Ready Data Architecture (Critical)

AI capability is a key expectation in this role.

Responsibilities include:

• Structuring data pipelines for ML/AI use cases
• Designing data models for analytics & predictive systems
• Integrating vector storage where required
• Supporting real-time data streaming
• Preparing datasets for AI model training
• Implementing AI-assisted query optimization tools
• Leveraging AI tools for schema design & DB performance analysis
• Enabling data lakes or warehouse integration

Exposure to:

• Vector databases (pgvector preferred)
• Embedding storage
• AI-driven query tuning tools
• Data warehouse architecture concepts

6️ Security & Compliance

• Encryption at rest & in transit
• Role-based access control
• Audit logging
• Data masking & anonymization
• Secure credential management
• Compliance alignment (financial-grade systems preferred)

7️ Monitoring & Performance Engineering

• Database performance monitoring
• Query plan analysis
• Index health tracking
• Use of monitoring tools (CloudWatch / Prometheus / Grafana)
• Latency reduction strategies
• Incident root cause analysis

8️ Leadership & Governance

• Define database standards
• Conduct architecture reviews
• Guide backend teams on DB best practices
• Establish performance benchmarks
• Define scaling roadmap
• Evaluate AI-based database optimization tools
• Mentor DB engineers
