Supervise line crews involved in installing, maintaining, and repairing underground and overhead electric transmission systems.
Oversee equipment, materials, and record-keeping.
Transmission line duties
- Supervise line crews performing installation, maintenance, and repair work on electric transmission systems.
- Evaluate crew-member performance and arrange additional training or corrective action as needed.
- Analyze operational methods and develop improved procedures.
- Maintain clearances between electric lines and other utilities.
- Install high-voltage connectors, transformers, and switches in manholes and vaults; secure equipment and cables.
- Install service lines, power poles, meters, and metering devices.
- Regularly report project status to supervisors, site engineers, and other officials.
- Train and mentor line workers to ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
Role accountability
- Take responsibility for operational deliverables, anticipate problems, and make timely decisions.
- Deliver results on time and to required quality and cost standards; provide progress reports.
- Plan, monitor, and execute business and development plans, taking corrective action when needed.
- Monitor budgets and expenses to support cost efficiency.
- Develop organizational structures and ensure job descriptions are available for roles.
- Improve written systems, policies, and procedures; pursue automation and effective use of relevant IT solutions.
- Promote quality, adaptation to new techniques and technologies, and a safe, secure, legally compliant work environment.
Qualifications and experience
- Diploma degree from an Electrical Institute.
- 6 to 10 years of work experience.
- Listed competencies include quality control, safety, troubleshooting, communication, multitasking, teamwork, physical fitness, hand/power tool proficiency, equipment maintenance, quick learning, and adaptability.
